Senior Citizens Recognize Enrico Fermi Students
Students at Enrico Fermi High School in Connecticut are helping senior citizens master technology. Members of the schools National Honor Society visit the Enfield Senior Center every Thursday from 3 to 5pm and tutor seniors with computers, tablets and smartphones.
Claire Thomas is an Enfield senior, being tutored by Afua Boadu-Ansah a junior, said “This iPad has just sat around for a long time, I didn’t know how to do anything.” She wanted to learn how email works to stay in touch with her hospitalized son and also realizes she needs to stay current with technology.
Evelyn Fitzgerald is another senior citizen trying to use technology for staying in touch with family. She had recently purchased her first cell phone but has had trouble using it.
Though you may hear of venues where senior citizens can get help with technology, there are millions in need of this type of assistance. The needs of the many far out-weigh the few that are helping in this situation. This issue is serious but for some reason the media seems to down-play its impact on Not-So-Tech-Savvy individuals.
Our campaign intends to provide serious help for this hidden issue and do our best to make the situation broadly known. We believe that with Social City Net, we will be able to make a change in society, and make everyone equal, at least where knowledge of mobile devices are concerned.
