It would be easy to think that the notion of a “Digital Divide” is now outdated. Whose life isn’t digital in some respect these days? But the Digital Divide is not only still with us, its growing wider. Even as Internet World Stats reports that 87.4% of Americans are online, but this gives no indication of frequency of use, levels of digital literacy or how active those Americans are online.
Our campaign has attracted no funding at all, and we haven’t any idea why. Though we are novices at campaigning, we understand this lack of support does not indicate a total lack of Public concern about Digital Literacy. Presenting 8 images of over 100 heartfelt supporting articles, documenting efforts to address issues related to Digital Literacy. There is an un-known factor at work, that has resulted in this lack of funding support that we are unable to address. (maybe a lack of campaigning money)
But undoubtedly, without help from volunteer organizations, high school and college students, Global Digital Literacy would be much higher than it is today, even though it’s growing at a faster rate than volunteers and reduce it. This means a global service needs to be started, one that can effectively help volunteer efforts and truly make a difference.
I began this venture just as an entrepreneur trying to start a business. As I read articles and study’s which generated the writing of over 400 posts, it became a “Cause”. And after the cause attracted so many fans, I found it to be my calling. I have become driven, to spread awareness of negative effects of Digital Literacy in society and to put in place a service that can help address these effects.
Everyone in society must become a little tech-savvy for their own wellbeing and that of loved ones, and our mission is to assist that process on a national & global scale.
Is it depressing getting no funding support? Absolutely, but as stated before, lack of funding support does not indicate the public isn’t concerned, I have many fans that prove it. I am therefore, not deterred and will run another campaign at a later date.
But back to the un-known factor that results in our lack of funding support. As stated, we are novices at this, but have put in place everything required for a successful campaign short of investing more money, which we don’t have. Any information or suggestions to this post would be appreciated that can get us on the right track.
Obviously, something more must be done to address Digital Literacy both here and around the world. We feel our service is a long-term solution that deserves a chance, especially because no-one else has a long-term global solution.
The right individuals just aren’t aware of this cause. Please forward this post to them.
