The LG V10 was officially unveiled in South Korea (10/01/2015) and the high-end smartphone did not disappoint. The unique device comes with two displays and a dual front-facing camera. The Korea Herald reports availability October 8th in South Korea, and the rest of the world soon thereafter. Smartphone prices are usually higher in Korea where it will cost around $680 but is expected to sell for about $600 in the US.
On the inside V10 isn’t much different than the LG G4, the same 3,000 mAh battery (removable), the same 808 Snapdragon processor, and the same 16MP rear camera but an extra gig of RAM. It’s the outside that steps-up as the V10 opted for a flat display instead of G4’s curve. It’s also built out of higher grade materials with stainless steel and silicon instead of plastic.
There are other distinguishing features, but the two screens just grab your attention. The main is a 5.7-inch QHD display, and just above it is the smaller “always on” screen that comes in handy. When the main display is off, the second can display weather, time and date, and battery level. If the main screen is on, the small screen can be used for accessing favorite contacts, quick launching apps, or notifications. View the second screen as similar to the Edge screen on Samsung’s Galaxy S6.
Beside the small screen are two front-facing 5MP cameras. One has a wide view of 120 degrees while the other is narrow at just 80 degrees. With two different fields of view it appears the cameras can’t be used to create 3D images, but LG says its software can combine images taken concurrently by the two lenses.
At this time it appears the V10 will be running Android 5.1 Lollipop, but it will most certainly be upgradable to 6.0 Marshmallow.
