Throughout a network of 30 community colleges in New South Wales, the Tech Savvy Seniors Program has been extended thru December 2015. For Senior Citizens that have not previous experience using technology the program delivers training in the use of computers, tablets and smartphones.
“Seniors felt they were now able to have greater participation in many aspects of modern life. They felt confident to understand what technology they would like to purchase for their needs. People enjoyed the social connection and formed new relationships with other participants over the duration of the program – many of which continued beyond the life of the program,” said a college coordinator.
Other comments said the courses gave many seniors new ways to communicate with family and friends. By using Skype and Social Media they have opened up new horizons and gained a new understanding as to how they younger generations communicate with each other.
The program initiative of the NSW Aging Strategy is funded through a partnership between the NSW government and Telstra.

There are a few similar programs in the United States such as Seniors Training, but finding information about them is hard to do, unfortunately. This is another reason for our startup efforts. Senior citizens seem to be more highly regarded in other countries I’m sorry to say.
