No matter what your age, learning mobile technology and all the tricks can take some time. But this new startup company is helping seniors with their devices by engaging tech-savvy teens. Teeniors was founded by Trish Lopez and she says “There is nothing else like this in New Mexico, it’s a fun job for teens. They love the work. The seniors love it and we’ve gotten nothing but five star reviews so far.”
At the Bear Canyon Senior Center on Thursday, the “Seniors with Smartphones” event took place. Teeniors co-founder Taylor Chavez and a number of teens helped seniors learn everything from basics to tricks on the devices. “Just the ‘ah ha!’ moments are the best,” Chavez said.
Ronald Bentz, who got a smartphone tutorial from a teen said “basically, I wanted a phone with a good camera on it so I wouldn’t have to carry a phone and a camera. I think it’s very helpful. It’s a great service.”
Trish Lopez’s team was first place at the “Startup Women’s Weekend” event in New Mexico this year and later received $20,000 investment from ABQid Business Accelerator, an entrepreneurial training program funded by the City of Albuquerque.
Teeniors is planning to charge $20 per session and the teens that help earn $10 per hour as the business takes off. Watch Teeniors Video
